Dunedin Interclub

The Dunedin Interclub competition is run by Squash Otago Inc and is held each year from around the middle of April until September. Interclub is divided into Mens and Womens competitions with Women on Tuesday nights starting at either 6.00pm or 8.30pm and Men on Wednesday nights at either 5.30pm or 8.00pm. Which starting time varies from week to week depending on the court availability and is specified well in advance when the competition draw is released (go to the Mens or Womens links on the left of the screen for the current competition draw).

Teams are entered by each club at the start of the year and are made up of players of similar ability. The collective strength of each team decides which division they are put into. Therefore each division comprises teams from each Dunedin club who will be competitive with each other and hopefully make for an even and keenly contested division.

Each week four (4) players represent their team and compete against an opposition team at either their home courts or those of the opposition. Individual wins contribute to the team tally of points with bonus points being awarded to the overall winning team.

Towards the end of the competition the leading teams go into a playoff round to ascertain who is the overall winning team in the division. Once the Interclub competition is over and the winners decided there is a Finals Presentation with pennants awarded to the Winners and Runners-Up in each division. This is also a social occasion with opportunity to relive some of the past successes and erase the memory of the losses!

If you wish to be included in an Interclub team there is a notice that comes out at the start of the season so individuals can enter. Alternatively talk to your Mens or Womens Club Captains and they will provide you with any help or advice you require (see the Committee list for the name of your Club Captain).
