Tournaments
Tournaments run at many levels and are available to all players, not just for the experienced or highly competitive. If you are new to Squash the best time to give one a go is at an Otago member only tournament. These are either at the start of the year with a season opening, or "icebreaker", tournament, or at the end of the year at the Club Champs. At other times of the year there are Tournaments suitable for all grades of players held at clubs throughout Dunedin and NZ - the dates for these are shown on the years Tournament Calendar and individual posters are placed on the clubs noticeboard closer to the time.
Tournaments generally run from a Thursday to Sunday and players can expect to have a minimum of 3 matches (best of 5 games) during this time. The usual structure is based on a 16 person knockout draw with a number of plate draws for the losing players in the early rounds.
Players are expected to Mark and Referee the match following their own so it is necessary to have an understanding of the rules and the method of recording (marking) the score. The club will hold a rules evening at the start of each season for those wishing to improve their skill, a copy of the rules is available on the rules page of this website.
So have a go Tournaments can be a lot of fun and a great way to meet other players and learn new skills - Good Luck!
