2008 Newsletter 1 February 2008
Hi

Welcome back to the new squash year it certainly feels busy already. We have a full year ahead of us with the usual string of tournaments, interclub, ongoing renovations, social events, business house and other activities.

The years-upcoming events and significant dates are recorded on the 2008 calendar of events attached in pdf format. If you are interested to know more, check out the clubs website or ask a committee member.

Happy Squashing

Ken Aitcheson (President)
Festival Open
The first tournament of the year is on the weekend of March 13-16 and is open to all players. If your not playing then come along and watch the rest of us suffer! Or ask how you can help out.

National Squash Weekend
Squash NZ has designated Sat the 5th and Sun the 6th of April as National Squash weekend. Accordingly the club will be open from 2.30 to 5pm each day for people interested in Squash to come and check us out. This event will be supported by mail and radio promotions.

Club Night
Club Night is set to start up from Monday March 3rd from 5.30 to 7.30pm. It is open to all members and anyone else who might be interested in checking out squash. So if you have friends or family who might want to have a go bring them down.

Junior Club Night
From Feb 29th Junior Night will be held on Friday nights from 5.30 to 7.00pm. There will be organised coaching available and fun games. We would encourage both members and non-members to come along and have a hit with the other players.

World Masters
In October this year Christchurch will play host to the World Squash Masters. This a great chance for us older players to be involved in what will be one of the biggest tournaments NZ has seen.
Check out www.worldmasterssquash.com

Interclub
This Years Interclub will commence from 15 and 16 April. This is available to all “competitive” members. A notice will be posted shortly for members to register for this year’s competition.

Subscriptions
Fees will remain the same for this year (from April 1st) with the only change being a $20 New Members Joining fee.

Thanks
A big thank you to those members who turned out to our annual firewood fundraiser – especially Deane Mason for the use of his property and equipment.

Fundraising & Working Bees BACK TO TOP
It has been difficult to get members to help out around the club this past year, we have generally seen the same old faces doing more than their fair share. The club needs the support of its members if it is to survive. I have had feedback that people would prefer to pay more rather than commit 3-4 hours per year. The reality is it would add $70 - $80 to each membership if we had to pay for what is currently achieved! Please help out.
